Midilot processes the selected audio in your browser and creates a Standard MIDI File containing its dominant-melody estimate. A notation viewer reads that MIDI file and lays its notes out on a staff. The score therefore reflects the notes in the MIDI; it cannot restore notes that the audio converter did not detect.

Midilot does not separate instruments or promise a complete transcription. Chords, layered parts, percussion, and reverberant recordings can lead to missing or incorrect notes. If your browser cannot decode the chosen audio format, conversion ends with an error.

A measured example

The input was an MP3 rendition of “Arpeggio.ogg” by Oona Räisänen, whose Commons file page lists a CC BY-SA 2.5 license. In Chrome Headless 153.0.0.0, Midilot produced a valid Standard MIDI File (format 0, one track, 480 ticks per quarter note) with 46 note events. The result appeared 1.27 seconds after Convert was pressed, measured in that run.

I opened that MIDI in the linked Tuneonmusic viewer. It displayed C, 4/4, 120 BPM, and 16 bars; the notation appeared 0.68 seconds after selecting the file. These are readings from this one browser run, not a speed or transcription guarantee. The source page provides no reference MIDI or reference score, so the exact number of missed or incorrect notes for this sample is unknown.

A separate controlled test used a generated 4.32-second WAV containing eight single notes: C4, D4, E4, G4, A4, G4, E4, C4. Midilot returned all eight expected pitch labels, while notes 2–8 began 0.12–0.15 seconds before their programmed start times. This checks a simple known sequence; it does not measure accuracy on a song or a multi-instrument recording.
